When Fonts Fight Back

I had a lightbulb moment the other day while working on a campaign for a local bakery. Picture this: the title ‘Baked with Love’ in a whimsical font, but the subtitle is in a grungy, distressed style. Talk about a visual clash! Got me thinking about how design choices can create unintended comedy. Has anyone else experienced a design element completely sabotaging their message?

That’s so true about design choices! I once used a bubbly font for a serious event invite, and people thought it was a joke. It really showed how important consistency is, especially when budgets are tight at $300 for print.

But i’ve definitely had my share of font mishaps — i once used a sleek serif font for a casual food festival flyer, and it just made everything feel way too stiff. Sometimes, sticking to something playful can save you from unintended interpretations, especially when you’re going for a vibe like ‘Baked with Love.’ It’s all about finding that balance.

I once paired a playful font with a formal wedding invite — total disaster! Saying ‘serious’ in comic sans just doesn’t work.
